While reading the first 60 pages of Educating Esme a lot of thing popped out at me, one of them being Mrs. Codell's teaching style. the reason this stood out to me was because she seems like a very nice teacher when the kids respect her but when she loses respect it seems she gets a little more harsh or strict. At the beginning of the book she said that she was surprised that she got the job because she thought they would want a more experienced teacher to help open up a new school but to me I kind of felt like she didn't really want the job for some reason. One of my, I don't want to say favorite but, my favorite parts of this section of reading was when the one student told Mrs. Codwell to suck his dick and her response was the part that completely shocked me and made my jaw drop, she said "alright pull down your pants". In my opinion that was not the best way to handle the situation and I felt like she should have just called the students parents or sent them to the office. Another thing that I found interesting about this book was the format that it was in because it isn't in the form of chapters but it is more like reading a journal because she tells you what is happening on certain days.
